Charles Doig
Credited with involvement in 56 distilleries (around half the total number of distilleries in Scotland), Charles Doig was a truly exceptional figure within the industry.
Inspired by Asian architecture, Doig single-handedly shaped Scotland’s modest- looking distilleries with the addition of his iconic ‘pagoda’ design.
Distilleries built in this style, even after his passing, don’t serve any practical benefits – they are simply there to pay homage to the treasured architect.
Coined the ‘doig ventilator’, this structure revolutionised whisky production in Scotland by allowing more air to leave the malthouse, resulting in a lower risk of distillery fires.
